Hey baby let’s go to Vegas

by Angela on July 27, 2011

This past weekend the hubby and I went on a whirlwind trip to Las Vegas for a reunion of sorts.  As I’ve mentioned, I was a military brat, and spent my 8th and 9th grade year at an American high school in Seoul, Korea…surprisingly named Seoul American High School.  🙂  It was a small school for 7th-12th graders, and everyone was very close because we were all in similar situations.  Military life is like that.  So although this Vegas reunion was for the class of 1991, there were a lot of people there who left the school before graduation, or were in a different class, like me (c/o ‘92).

So was there anything “healthy” about this trip so that I can tie it in to the theme of our blog?

Crickets chirping….

Oh I know!  🙂  We went to this awesome Mexican restaurant for dinner one night and the waitress made the guacamole fresh, right on the spot:

Seriously though, besides working out like a crazy lady leading up to this reunion, the healthiest part of the trip was reconnecting with the hubby.  After being married for a while and having children, sometimes we tend to see our spouse in their parenting role only, and forget about who they were during those dating years.  So this was a great trip for us to recharge our relationship, spend alone time together, talk without being interrupted by rugrats, eat a nice meal in peace and some other stuff, if you know what I mean.  Oh stop it, I meant going to the pool, of course!  😉

But anyway, it was also so great to see some old friends and meet some new ones.  The reunion committee went all out and planned a great weekend for everyone.  Here’s some snapshots from the weekend:

We stayed at the MGM Grand:

But the main reunion event was at the Palms:

See those balconies in the picture above?  Those are actually hot tubs!  Our suite for the reunion was in the Fantasy Tower and here’s the picture of the hot tub from the inside:

Super cool.  And someone may or may not have accidentally stepped in it because they weren’t paying attention (not I).

The first night we were there we took in a show:

2011 07 - Vegas Jabbawockeez The Jabbawockeez are this sick (that’s my attempt at street lingo) dance crew who won MTV’s America’s Best Dance Crew a few years back.  Our kids love watching their routines because they are amazing.  And the show was amazing as well.

Here’s my outfit for the main event…boy was I nervous!  Jeans are Miss Me (love) and top is from the Gap….I’m so not fashionable.

To calm the nerves, I had to get my drink on:2011 07 - Vegas drinking margarita

And play some slots:

I actually won…a dollar.  Fortunately neither myself or the hubby are gamblers, so we dropped a whopping $27 to play the slots and I didn’t even get to pull the lever…it was all push button.  Lame!

I will refrain from posting pictures of my friends because I didn’t tell them about the blog and ask them permission to post pictures, yadda-yadda.  Of course I posted them all over Facebook, but that’s TOTALLY different, right?!

What I learned from my Las Vegas trip:

  • I’m not a Las Vegas girl (and I don’t mean show girl).  It’s just not my thing, not somewhere I’d go just for fun.
  • I’m so glad I made it through my young adult life without doing anything stupid (that I can remember)…we saw lots of stupidity in Vegas.
  • I’m not as young as I thought I was.  Sleep is much more important than partying.
  • $20 disappears very quickly in a slot machine.
  • Getting back in the gym after a weekend of drinking, eating not-so-healthy foods, not getting enough beauty sleep and second-hand smoking a pack of cigarettes while walking through the casinos is not easy.  I had no energy today….will try again tomorrow.
