I am an over-30, stay-at-home mom with an inner fashionista who has been dormant for way too many years. My days are spent in my gym attire, I hardly ever wear heels and my perfume bottles are getting cloudy.Â
It’s not that I don’t want to look nice and fashionable, but sometimes I think if I change out of my gym attire, then it’s just one more set of clothes to add to my perpetual laundry pile. And I really don’t think my kids or other neighborhood moms I see on the way to and from school really care how fashionable I am.
But you know how women are…we are constantly comparing ourselves to others.  I think it’s just ingrained in our being. So when I see another woman who looks “put togetherâ€, it really draws my attention to what I’m wearing and how my shirt is 10 years old or my shoes are from many seasons ago. I’m ready to be fashionable again!
Enter my friend, Carly, and her fashion blog, Thirty Something Fashion.Â
First of all, the blog itself is great for people like me. Carly features affordable fashion that is easy to achieve. But what caught my eye is a personal shopping service she offers called “What’s in your boxâ€. For a small fee, she will send a box of clothes and/or accessories she has chosen for you from local boutiques. Whatever you don’t want, you just send back. It’s that easy. It’s like bringing a boutique shopping experience/dressing room to your doorstep. So when my box arrived, I was like a kid opening a Christmas present!
Each outfit was separated by tissue paper with a personal note attached indicating what she likes about the outfit or how she pictures it being worn. She included accessories (mostly earrings) with almost every outfit and pricing for everything was very reasonable. I asked her for casual, fashionable outfits/tops with some accessories. She will cater your box to your needs.
Are you dying to know what she sent me???  Okay, before I show you all my outfits in my mock fashion show, I have to give some disclaimers…my photographer was my 8 year old son. He’s short and well, he’s 8 years old. So pictures are usually from a “short angleâ€â€¦I hate that angle. My mother is a little Asian woman and the pictures she takes turn out the same way. Second disclaimer…um, it may be obvious, but I’m not a model. Oh I tried with that whole celebrity legs crossed pose, but it didn’t work for me in most pictures. And finally, I’m not going to give you my opinions on the outfits. I want your feedback. 🙂
Outfit 1 – Top and skinny jeans. She said she pictured it with brown boots. These were the only boots I had and I feel they make me look like a Star Wars character, but you get the idea.
Outfit 1 earrings:
Outfit 2 – “Going out†lacey top and same skinny jeans from outfit 1:
I always dread going jean shopping because it is so hard to find a pair that fit right in all the right places. These jeans worked out well for me. Here’s a view of the backside (yes, I know my badonkadonk is disproportionate to my body):
Outfit 2 earrings:
Outfit 3 – Ruffle cardigan over grey top (jeans are mine):
Outfit 4:Â Striped cardigan (jeans are mine, child is mine):
Outfit 3 & 4 earrings:
Outfit 5 – Sweater with brown tank underneath, silky cargo pants and scarf which I had NO idea what to do with. I’m not a scarf person.
Outfit 6 – Black flowy button down shirt, cargo leggins:
Outfit 7 – Black, chunky sweater and same cargo leggins from outfit 6 (she didn’t package these together, but I already had them on, so no sense changing out):
Outfit 8: Black boot cut jeans and striped sweater. Loved the fit of these jeans as well:
Outfit 8 earrings:
Whew, that’s it. So what do you all think? I need some feedback. The bank account (and the hubby) won’t allow me to just keep everything. So I have to pick and choose. Which outfit or piece is your favorite? After you help me choose, then head on over to Carly’s site and check out her blog and consider ordering yourself a box.Â
Thanks Carly!!!
