The other day I was talking to a friend of mine about working out, running and just exercising in general and she said to me she doesn’t go to the gym to exercise because, “the gym intimidates me.â€Â GASP! No excuse I say (although not to her face). But seriously, the gym can be an intimidating place what with all the equipment and weights and people giving you the stink eye (they really aren’t by the way, you just think they are).Â
A lot of women I know go to the gym for classes…spinning, body pump, zumba, which I think is totally awesome. But I also enjoy doing my own thing because I can workout whenever I want, without having to depend on a group class. And either way, whether I’m taking a class or doing my own thing, it’s an hour or so to myself, to take care of myself. Please note, I am not certified in any way and everything I do I’ve learned from my hubby, reading magazines or just watching other people, but if anyone would like a rundown of my workout schedule, I’d be happy to share, just email me. For example, yesterday I did a 3 mile run on the treadmill, then did 3 shoulder exercises with free weights, and a little bit of abs.Â
So what did I do after this nice workout? Oh, I took the kids to McDonalds for lunch. Hey, I didn’t say I was perfect! But I did talk myself into ordering the Asian Salad, which I thought was very good:
I looked up the nutrition info on the website and it’s not listed. I think it’s a new menu item so the website probably just hasn’t been updated. And I probably could have improved the nutritional value by ordering grilled chicken instead of crispy…again, in the words of Yoda, not perfect I am.Â

Fast forward to last night….the family and I hung out to the sounds of a reggae band, Jah Works, at our local community summer concert. It’s always a good time with friends, music, the outdoors, and let’s not forget a cold one in hand (now I’ve REALLY canceled out that workout from earlier in the day!).Â
This was our second concert of the summer (I love my community, by the way). But the first one is really worth mentioning because drumroll…..I participated in a flash mob! So much fun! It was another item on my bucket list (the other one being the half marathon). And this one, I actually helped choreograph and organize with my friend, Nicole, so it was a sense of pride to watch it come together. So I’ll end with the video, which was disappointingly not very good, but you will still get the general feel for what an awesome community and group of friends and neighbors I have!
What is something on your bucket list that you would like to accomplish this summer?
[…] fun because it’s one class my hubby will actually take with me. So just like I mentioned in my previous article, if the gym intimidates you, this is actually a great class to take. It works every body part […]
