Hi-Ho, Hi-Ho, It’s Off to the Gym I Go…

Health & Fitness

The other day I was talking to a friend of mine about working out, running and just exercising in general and she said to me she doesn’t go to the gym to exercise because, “the gym intimidates me.”  GASP!  No excuse I say (although not to her face).  But seriously, the gym can be an intimidating place what with all the equipment and weights and people giving you the stink eye (they really aren’t by the way, you just think they are).

A lot of women I know go to the gym for classes…spinning, body pump, zumba, which I think is totally awesome.  But I also enjoy doing my own thing because I can workout whenever I want, without having to depend on a group class.  And either way, whether I’m taking a class or doing my own thing, it’s an hour or so to myself, to take care of myself.  Please note, I am not certified in any way and everything I do I’ve learned from my hubby, reading magazines or just watching other people, but if anyone would like a rundown of my workout schedule, I’d be happy to share, just email me.  For example, yesterday I did a 3 mile run on the treadmill, then did 3 shoulder exercises with free weights, and a little bit of abs.

So what did I do after this nice workout?  Oh, I took the kids to McDonalds for lunch.  Hey, I didn’t say I was perfect!  But I did talk myself into ordering the Asian Salad, which I thought was very good:

I looked up the nutrition info on the website and it’s not listed.  I think it’s a new menu item so the website probably just hasn’t been updated.  And I probably could have improved the nutritional value by ordering grilled chicken instead of crispy…again, in the words of Yoda, not perfect I am.

Fast forward to last night….the family and I hung out to the sounds of a reggae band, Jah Works, at our local community summer concert.  It’s always a good time with friends, music, the outdoors, and let’s not forget a cold one in hand (now I’ve REALLY canceled out that workout from earlier in the day!).

This was our second concert of the summer (I love my community, by the way).  But the first one is really worth mentioning because drumroll…..I participated in a flash mob!  So much fun!  It was another item on my bucket list (the other one being the half marathon).  And this one, I actually helped choreograph and organize with my friend, Nicole, so it was a sense of pride to watch it come together.  So I’ll end with the video, which was disappointingly not very good, but you will still get the general feel for what an awesome community and group of friends and neighbors I have!

What is something on your bucket list that you would like to accomplish this summer?

[…] fun because it’s one class my hubby will actually take with me.  So just like I mentioned in my previous article, if the gym intimidates you, this is actually a great class to take.  It works every body part […]

☘️Happy St. Patrick’s Day! ☘️ I’m we ☘️Happy St. Patrick’s Day! ☘️

I’m wearing my green today and preparing to make some corned beef and cabbage for dinner, but what is this day about? Here are some fun facts:
☘️
What are we celebrating? St Patrick’s Day commemorates the patron saint of Ireland, a missionary who brought Christianity to Ireland. It is celebrated on March 17th, which is the day he is believed to have died.
☘️
Why shamrocks? St. Patrick used the 3-leaf shamrock to explain the Holy Trinity.
☘️
Why green? Green has tradition in Ireland but an old folklore states that wearing green makes you invisible to leprechauns. If they can see you, they will pinch you!
☘️
Why corned beef and cabbage? Well, corned beef and cabbage is NOT the traditional dish in Ireland! When Irish immigrants came to America, they couldn’t afford the more traditional pork and bacon, so they used the cheapest cut of meat they could find, beef brisket. So corned beef (not in any way related to corn but is a reference to the brine) and the inexpensive vegetable, cabbage, became the celebration dish of choice. (Side note, if you are Catholic and St. Patrick’s Day falls on a Friday during Lent, like today, diocese will usually issue a dispensation from abstinence, which means meat can be eaten today. So queue the corned beef!).

Because I love this quote so much, I had to upgrad Because I love this quote so much, I had to upgrade it from a story to a post. Michelle Yeoh, 60 years old, is the first Asian woman to win an Oscar for best actress for her performance in Everything Everywhere All at Once. 🏆What an inspiration! 💗 And not to be overshadowed, Jaime Lee Curtis won her first Oscar for a supporting role in the same movie. She is 64.

🌟It’s never too late!🌟

Happy New Year! I’ve been a little absent becaus Happy New Year! I’ve been a little absent because I started the year off with a cold that left me tired and unmotivated. But I’m feeling better and starting my goal tracking a little late. I thought it would be helpful to combine all our goal trackers into one file for easy downloading and printing. The link to the all-in-one file can be found in our profile @everydayroadtohealthy ☝🏼. Swipe to see January printed at 75% and taped inside my planner. I’m hoping this works better for me this year!
