It’s been a while since we’ve done one of these. If you’ve been following a while, you may already know that I (Angela) love my diffusers and essential oils. We have them throughout the house, but when we use them, they are intentional and usually purposeful (we are sick or need some serenity). Today’s post is about what to use for the house to smell good ALL the time. There’s always candles, which many are non-toxic, but you have to be very mindful of them. Plug-ins are a better choice when you want to just plug it in and forget it. But conventional plug-ins found in grocery and convenience stores are so bad for you! They release volatile organic compounds (VOCs) into the air causing respiratory problems and allergic reactions. They are endocrine disruptors, bad for kids and pets, and in some cases linked to cancer. Toss them out!

Instead, I have started using Pura Home Diffusers which are a much cleaner and safer option. Every Pura scent is made with clean ingredients and is safe to use around kids and pets. Each diffuser plug-in can hold 2 fragrances which are purchased as needed or on a subscription. It is app-based and allows you to create customized schedules of run-time, by scent and intensity. There are so many scent options, including seasonal releases, my favorites being the vanilla/woodsy fragrances. Do they cost more than the conventional plug-ins? Yes, of course. But if you are looking for a safer alternative, then consider it an investment in your health! Usually if you sign up for a short-term subscription, you can get the diffuser for free. I just did this for my son’s college apartment. By signing up for a 6-month subscription for 2 scents, we received a free diffuser. Just go to “Deals” on the Pura website.

This past weekend was our 3rd year dropping my old

This past weekend was our 3rd year dropping my oldest off at college. It is a teeny, tiny bit easier each time, but I will always remember that first year as one of the hardest things I’ve had to go through as a parent. If this is the hardest thing, then I am pretty damn lucky, but it still comes with some pretty strong emotions.

Here are some things I did this week to get through the days following college drop-off:

✨Cried…I’m fine. You’re fine. We’re all fine. I have successfully not sobbed in front of my son, but he still knows leaving him at school makes me weepy. At the same time, it comforts my heart knowing he’s happy and found his place.

✨Inserted myself in my other son’s life, whether he likes it or not! 😝 He’s a senior in high school (which has its own set of emotions for me) so he’s going to get a lot of attention this year, haha!

✨Organized/clean - It’s like nesting, but opposite! Our guest bedroom no longer looks like an entire apartment was dumped in it. Instead of preparing for a baby, it’s cleaning up after the baby. 😂

✨Spent time outdoors - I immediately feel a sense of calm when taking my dog for a walk, especially with the cooler temps lately. I’ve also been doing a little research on grounding after a friend of mine piqued my interest. Stay tuned for more on that.

✨Exercised - Hit the gym and went to dance classes for a little stress relief.

✨ Wore the gear - Found a JMU sweatshirt, put it on, and immediately felt closer to my son. 💜💛 Give it a try!

We’re Angela and Deena, friends who first met in high school back in the ‘90s, when big hair and bright clothes were all the rage. Our bond grew even stronger as we both faced the life-changing challenges of cancer—Angela with her breast cancer diagnosis in 2008, and Deena with her son’s battle against bone cancer in 2010, which he, unfortunately, lost two years later.

These experiences made us rethink our lives and commit to a healthier future for ourselves and our families. We realized that lasting change doesn’t come from drastic measures, but through small, everyday adjustments that gradually build healthier habits.

At Everyday Road to Healthy, we’re sharing the simple, practical steps we’re taking to transition from healthy to healthier. As we move through midlife and beyond, these changes become even more important. Some things will change, and others will stay the same, but we believe every step on this journey is worth it.

My heart is so full from an amazing family vacatio

My heart is so full from an amazing family vacation to a tropical paradise topped off with time spent with a dear friend I haven’t seen in 20 years! It was all so good for my soul, from the relaxing beaches and stunning scenery, to the lush greenery and meditative culture. Pictures just don’t do it justice and can never describe the love I have for this vacation and the people I was able to spend it with. Family and lifelong friends are everything. ❤️🌴

Easy Chicken Pad Thai Recipe: - dice chicken and c

Easy Chicken Pad Thai Recipe:
- dice chicken and cook fully in a skillet - remove from skillet and set aside
- chop 3-4 carrots, 4-5 scallions and 2Tbsp of garlic
- create sauce: juice 1 lime, 1/2 c soy sauce, 1/2 cup water, 1/2 cup brown sugar (mix together) - set aside
- cook/scramble 4 eggs - set aside.
- cook pad Thai noodles according to package instructions
- sauté veggies in large skillet
- add noodles and sauce into veggy skillet -heat for a few mins
- stir in cooked chicken and eggs to veggy skillet. Cooke for a couple mins
- remove from heat stir in cilantro & peanuts (I keep the peanuts on the side as not everyone in my family likes them)

It’s all about choices! When I snack, it’s sometimes out of hunger, but it’s usually a craving or boredom. So if I’m trying to stick with low cal, I could reach for the mini chips and eat them 1 by 1 like a little squirrel 🐿️, which really does nothing for a sweet craving or boredom because it’s instant gratification for a VERY short period of time. OR I can eat a large bowl of watermelon 🍉 that is sweet, takes me a long time to eat, and is actually very filling and 92% water! Both options are only 100 calories but the choice comes down to which one checks all the boxes and stays within my macros.

Don’t get me wrong, sometimes I choose the chocolate because #chocolatemakeseverythingbetter 🍫☺️.
